Memories from old diving logs

When we We started diving Digital diving versions of the dive log had not yet been developed, but filling out our dives on paper was also part of the diving we had just done and we loved it, because it was like extending a little longer the little time we had spent underwater. The data that can never be missing from a dive log are: dive number, date, depth, bottom time, surface interval in case of consecutive dives, and the equipment configuration, that is, neoprene thickness, ballast and tank capacity.

But without a doubt what we liked most was to record everything we had seen and what the place we had enjoyed diving was like, because although it was unlikely, we did not want to forget any detail of each and every one of our diving experiences, since as we always say, the ocean is never the same as the moment before.

Finally, the great moment when the diving center stamped our dive sheet, recognizing a moment that, in addition to having been enjoyed so much, added to our career as divers.

This took us a lot of time, especially at the level we were doing it, because in addition to using it as a tool to study the most efficient equipment configurations for each type of diving and to observe our progress in air consumption, it also allowed us to learn more about all the species and ecosystems we had observed, as we documented their behavior and curiosities. And yet we did it.

Can you imagine being able to do all of that, gathering much more extra information in just a couple of minutes and needing only your mobile phone, without running the risk of having forgotten the divelog and that dive remaining unsealed forever?

Today, all this and more is possible and it's free.

Below we explain the importance of having a divelog, the advantages that a digital divelog like the one from SSI offers compared to paper records and how to have free access to your divelog.

Why should you keep a dive log?

The digital diving divelog is an essential tool for every conscious diver as it contains their diving history. There are numerous reasons why it is important to record all the information about your dives in this logbook, the main ones being the following:

  1. Record your progress as a diver, which is not only rewarding but also essential to demonstrate your experience and obtain certain diving certifications.
  2. It is a very helpful resource for your diving guide, since knowing your experience, he or she can design dives that better fit your expectations and level of training.
  3. It helps us recognize and remember the equipment settings that make us feel comfortable and safe in each type of diving and therefore enjoy them more.
  4. Remember your experiences and dives, as well as all the details that may be interesting or useful for future dives.

Advantages of a digital diving divelog

From our experience, and the number of divers we meet each year, we have found that many do not keep a logbook, and the reason for this is often common to all. They take a lot of time to fill out, the amount of information is also limited by the design of the logbook, and with so many items to remember to pack in the dive bag, the divelog is often forgotten.

But all of these are not problems today thanks to the digital format that we can offer you as an SSI diving center, which offers us the following advantages:

  1. At Buceo Norte we have done almost all the work, as we have created a database with all the information about the Gran Canaria dive sites that we offer in our centre and the species that we usually see in each one. By simply scanning a QR code using the SSI application on your mobile, you can enter all this information into your diary and select which species you saw. The only data you will have to write down will be the details of your dive.
  2. You can also easily create new dive sites with specific functions if you dive on your own, but in this case you will only be able to register your companion on your dive, it will not be stamped by the center.
  3. Digitally share dives and sign logs with your personal QR code, or have your buddy, Dive Professional or SSI Dive Center verify your dive experiences with theirs.
  4. You'll never lose a certification card or forget one at home again. All of your SSI certifications are available in your profile.
  5. You can include all the dives you did before you had the digital divelog.
  6. It is possible to enter specific diving details (such as gas mixes) for recreational diving, freediving or extended range diving.
  7. All your logged dives are automatically synced between your MySSI App and your online MySSI account.
  8. Earn rewards and recognition levels for reaching experience goals and logging dives.
  9. Download your dives directly from your dive computer (only available on selected computers).
  10. Share your experiences with family and friends on social media.
